This two man unit must remain compact to avoid being bypassed when the full backs move high up the pitch.

Roma uses a front four to pin the last defender and attack with heavy verticality. Samuel and Pelizzoli work as two forwards in a partnership, with Samuel acting to hold up the ball and Pelizzoli looking to hit in behind on the transition. On the flanks, Panucci and Chivu occupy the wide areas. Panucci and Chivu act as wide wingers to stretch the defence, allowing the central players to find space in the channels or arrive late into the box.

This lineup offers significant speed of transition and the ability to create wide overloads. By pushing the full backs high, Roma can create two on one situations against the opposition wingers.
