Starting Lineup

RB Leipzig seeks to dominate through high intensity and verticality in a 2-5-3. This formation relies on aggressive pressing and rapid transitions to catch opponents off guard. The goal is to squeeze the space and win the ball back high up the pitch to launch immediate attacks.

Vandevoordt operates behind a back two that must be extremely brave. Esteve and Lukeba act as the central defenders, playing in a high line to compress the pitch. These two must be ready to sweep behind the defense and cover for the midfielders when the team loses possession. Because there are only two central defenders, Esteve and Lukeba must remain disciplined to prevent being split by direct passes.

The midfield core is incredibly dense, providing a massive presence in the center of the pitch. Vermeeren and Seiwald act as the central engine, with Seiwald helping to shield the back two while Vermeeren looks to drive forward with the ball. Raum and Reitz occupy the defensive midfield roles, but they act more as lateral players who can shift to support the flanks or tuck in to create a compact block. Baumgartner plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, finding pockets of space to play through the lines and connect the midfield to the front three.

In the final third, RB Leipzig uses three attackers to pin the opposition back. Guiu leads the line as a lone striker, looking to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. Nusa and Nkunku provide the width and directness, with Nusa on the left and Nkunku on the right. Both Nusa and Nkunku are tasked to cut inside and create scoring chances, while their movement forces the opposition defenders to stay narrow. The frontline is designed to press from the front, forcing the opponent to play long balls that the central defenders can win.

This lineup offers significant numerical superiority in the middle of the park, making it very difficult for opponents to build play through the center. The ability to press in coordinated waves allows RB Leipzig to win it back high up the pitch and exploit disorganized defenses. By having five players in the midfield, the team can easily control the tempo and quickly switch play to the wide areas.
