Starting Lineup

PALERMO (DC) · DIVER (MD) · AIMAR (MP) · GIAN (DFC) · L. MESSI (LD) · JOACO (GK) · MAXSS (DFC) · LEPRA (LI) · JORGE (MCD) · SANN (MCD) · AGUCHO (MI)

Argentina relies on a high intensity vertical style through a 4-2-4. This formation aims to overwhelm the opposition by committing many players forward to press high and attack with speed. The lineup is built to catch opponents out in transition and create constant pressure in the final third.

JOACO stays between the posts to organize the back line. Argentina uses a flat back four that must stay compact to avoid being caught on the break. LEPRA plays as the left back, looking to push up the flank, while L. MESSI operates at right back to provide support. In the middle, GIAN and MAXSS act as the central defenders, with GIAN focusing on winning the header and MAXSS covering the space behind. The defensive unit must stay brave to maintain a high line and squeeze the space.

A double pivot controls the center of the pitch. SANN and JORGE work as the two midfielders who shield the defence and try to win the second ball. SANN helps to recycle possession, while JORGE looks to drive forward with the ball to link the defensive and attacking lines. They must be disciplined to stop counter attacks and prevent the opposition from playing through the lines.

The attacking unit consists of four players positioned to stretch the defence. AGUCHO and DIVER act as wide wingers, with AGUCHO hugging the touchline and DIVER looking to cut inside to threaten the goal. In the center, AIMAR and PALERMO work as a two forwards partnership. PALERMO acts as a target man to hold up the ball, while AIMAR looks to make runs in behind to exploit gaps. This front four is designed to press from the front and pin the last defender.

Argentina possesses great speed of transition when moving from defense to attack. The wide overloads created by the wingers and full backs allow the team to spread wide and stretch the defence. By playing with two central strikers, the team can also win the second ball in the attacking third to keep the pressure constant.

This 4-2-4 formation is a high risk high reward system centered on aggressive attacking. It is best suited for games where the team needs to break down a low block or chase a result through relentless pressure.
