Inter focuses on a high press and quick transitions through a 3-5-2. This formation is built to control the center of the pitch and use verticality to catch opponents out of position. The Inter lineup relies on heavy pressure to win the ball high up the pitch and move forward with speed.

In goal, Ivan maintains the defensive line. The back three consists of John, Manuel, and Alessandro. Manuel operates as the left centre-back, while Alessandro plays as the right centre-back. John sits in the middle to organize the unit and cover space. This defensive line can step up to squeeze the space and set the offside trap. The defenders focus on winning the second ball and clearing the lines when under pressure.

The midfield is a dense group designed to dominate the center. Nicolò acts as the single pivot to shield the defense and win the ball back. Hakan sits in the middle to recycle possession and switch play. Federico and Djed occupy the half-spaces to drive forward with the ball and connect the defensive and attacking lines. Curtis plays as an attacking ten behind the strikers to find space between the lines. This group allows the team to compress the midfield and deny the turn to opposition players.

The attack utilizes two forwards in a partnership. Marcus and Lautaro work together to pin the last defender. Lautaro often plays as a pressing centre-forward to trigger a press from the front. Marcus looks to run in behind or link up play between the lines. They work to stretch the defence and create combinations in tight spaces. When the team moves in transition, they look to hit in behind on the transition to exploit gaps.

This formation offers several tactical advantages. The team achieves numerical superiority in midfield through the presence of five players in the central areas. They can also use coordinated waves to press high and win the ball back quickly. The ability to shift between a compact defensive block and a rapid attacking force makes them very hard to play against.

Inter uses this 3-5-2 to dominate central areas and punish teams on the break. It is a formation best suited for facing opponents who play with a high line or struggle to track late runners into the box.
