Bologna Football Formation
Starting Lineup
LUKASZ (SKORUPSKI) · EMIL (HOLM) · MARTIN (VITIK) · TORBJORN (HEGGEM) · JUAN (MIRANDA) · NIKOLA (MORO) · LEWIS (FERGUSON) · JENS (ODGAARD) · RICCARDO (ORSOLINI) · JONATHAN (ROWE) · ARTEM (DOVBYK)Bologna aims to control the tempo through high pressing and quick transitions in a 4-3-3. This formation is built to squeeze the space in the middle and use wide areas to stretch the opposition. The lineup seeks to win the ball back high up the pitch and immediately look for runners in behind.
LUKASZ operates between the posts to manage the defensive line. The back four sits in a high line to keep the team compact. MARTIN and TORBJORN act as the central defenders, where MARTIN provides cover while TORBJORN focuses on winning the header in aerial duels. JUAN plays as an attacking full back on the left to provide width, while EMIL covers the right flank to ensure the team stays defensively solid.
The midfield works as a three man midfield with a carrier. NIKOLA plays in the left central role to shield the defence and intercept passes. LEWIS acts as the engine in the right central spot to carry the ball forward and link the defence to the attack. JENS operates as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to arrive late into the box and play through the lines to find the forwards.
Bologna uses three attackers across the front to pin the last defender. ARTEM acts as the pressing centre forward to lead the hunt for the ball. JONATHAN plays as an inverted winger on the left, cutting inside to create space for JUAN to overlap. RICCARDO stays wide on the right to stretch the defence, looking to get to the byline and deliver early crosses for ARTEM to attack the near post.
The main strengths of this formation are the ability to press high in coordinated waves and the capacity to create wide overloads. By having JONATHAN move inside, the team forces the opposition to shift, which leaves space for the full backs to push up. This setup also creates numerical superiority in the final third during attacking phases.
This 4-3-3 setup relies on intense pressing and rapid vertical movement to break down opponents. Bologna is best suited for matches against teams that struggle to play out from the back under pressure.
