Dynamo Kyiv focuses on a heavy defensive presence and quick transitions using a 5-4-1. This lineup is built to sit deep and protect the central areas while waiting for the right moment to hit the opponent on the break. The goal is to be extremely difficult to break down through the middle, forcing the opposition to play wide and then trapping them in congested spaces.

Вакуленко stays between the posts to command the area. The defensive unit operates as a back five with Вітульський and Керезвас/Мухін sitting centrally to secure the zone. Клівода operates as the left center back to provide cover. The wing backs, Верещак and Усенко, are tasked with providing width and tracking back to support the back line when under pressure. This formation relies on the central defenders to win headers and clear the lines during sustained attacks.

The midfield works as a flat four to maintain a compact block. Пролетарський and Дацков sit in the middle to shield the defense and win the second ball. Шумков and Пісоцький occupy the wide areas to help the wing backs and close down passing lanes. This midfield unit is designed to compress the space between the lines, making it hard for the opponent to play through. They work to intercept passes and immediately look to move the ball forward once possession is regained.

In the attacking phase, Довгорук acts as a lone striker to hold up the ball and lead the press from the front. He must work to pin the last defender and create space for the midfielders to arrive late into the box. The wide players, Шумков and Пісоцький, push up to provide outlets, often looking to deliver crosses from wide positions. The team attacks in transition, looking to use the pace of the wide players to catch the opposition defense out of position.

Dynamo Kyiv gains a major advantage through their extreme compactness when defending in a low block. This makes it very hard for opponents to find space between the lines. Another strength is the ability to use the width of the pitch via Верещак and Усенко to stretch the defense during a sudden break. The coordination of the five defenders and the bank of four midfielders ensures that very little space is left for the opposition to exploit.

This formation is ideal for a team looking to absorb pressure and strike on the counter. It is best suited for matches against dominant opponents where sitting deep and defending in a narrow block is the primary goal.
