Bounou acts as the last line of defense in goal. The back line operates as a flat back four with Mahzari acting as a defensive wing back to hold the width on the right. Hernandez plays as an attacking full back to provide width on the left. In the center, Koulibaly uses his aerial strength and physical presence to win headers, while Akçiçek works to cover the space behind him. This defensive unit works together to keep a narrow block and force the opposition to the flanks.

The midfield functions as a five man unit that connects the defense to the attack. Neves sits as a single pivot to shield the defense and recycle possession with his passing range. Beside him, Milinkovic-Savic and Bouabré occupy the central spaces to win the second ball and drive forward with the ball. On the flanks, Summerville and Watkins provide the width, with Summerville looking to cut inside and Watkins ready to overlap the winger. This group works to compress the midfield and prevent the opponent from playing through the lines.

In the attacking phase, Al-Hilal relies on a lone striker, Meïté, to lead the line. Meïté acts as a pressing centre forward to disrupt the opposition back line and hold up the ball for the incoming midfielders. The attack is built through quick combination play where Summerville and Watkins look to isolate wide players in one on one situations. When the team transitions, the wingers push high to deliver early crosses or cut back the ball to runners arriving late into the box.
