On the flanks, Gattermayer and Drew play as wide wingers who hug the touchline to stretch the defence. Gattermayer and Drew provide the necessary width to allow the central midfielders to move into advanced positions. This front three works to press the opposition back line in unison, forcing long balls and looking to hit in behind on the transition.

One major strength of this formation is the massive numerical superiority in midfield, which makes it very difficult for opponents to play through the middle.
