Starting Lineup

Vincent (Alan) · Amanor · Alan (Kossi) · Sarge · Daniel (Nii) · Dr. Sam (Charlie / Jeff) · Clarence (Sam Odae) · Cisco (Will) · Frank (Sefa) · Ugo (Nana) · Lewis (Prince)

A high pressing and rapid transition identity defines this lineup, which operates in a 5-2-3 formation. The team seeks to win the ball high up the pitch and strike quickly before the opposition can settle. By using a wide attacking front, the team aims to stretch the opposition back line and create spaces for central runners.

Vincent stays between the posts to organize the defensive line. The back five functions with a central trio consisting of Dr. Sam, Sarge, and Daniel. Dr. Sam acts as the central anchor to cover space, while Sarge and Daniel provide stability on either side. The wide defenders, Amanor and Alan, act as attacking wing backs who push high up the pitch to provide width. This setup allows the team to defend zonally and transition into a back three when the wing backs move forward to support the attack.

The midfield consists of a double pivot with Cisco and Clarence. These two midfielders work to control the center of the pitch and protect the defensive unit. Cisco and Clarence must work to compress the midfield and stop opposition players from playing through the lines. They are responsible for winning the second ball and recycling possession to the wide areas. When the team wins the ball back, they look to immediately find the forwards to break the lines.

In the final third, the team utilizes three attackers across the front. Lewis and Ugo act as wide wingers who hug the touchline to spread the defence, while Frank operates as a lone striker. Frank works to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. The wingers, Lewis and Ugo, look to cut inside to create shooting opportunities or deliver crosses into the box. This formation creates many chances for runs in behind and allows the wing backs to overlap the winger to create overloads.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads through the movement of Amanor and Alan. Another strength is the compactness when defending in a mid-block, making it difficult for opponents to find gaps between the lines. The team also benefits from a high press, as the front three can trigger a press in pairs to force a long ball from the opposition.

This 5-2-3 formation relies on intense work rates from the wing backs and the front three. It is a setup best suited for facing teams that play with a high defensive line or struggle against rapid counter attacks.
