Starting Lineup

Andersen · Bassey · Affengruber · Castagne · Sessegnon · G. García · Bobb · Smith Rowe · Berge · King · Leno

Fulham focuses on a high press and rapid transitions using a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to squeeze the pitch and win the ball back high up the pitch to catch opponents out of position. By using a wide attacking front, the team looks to stretch the defence and create chaos in the final third.

Leno sits between the posts to oversee the defensive unit. The back line operates as a back three, with Andersen acting as the ball playing centre back to start attacks. Bassey covers the left side of the three, while Affengruber occupies the right. This unit is tasked to hold the line and ensure the space behind is covered if the team pushes high. They must be ready to step up and trigger the offside trap when the opposition tries to build from the back.

The midfield utilizes a central pairing with Sessegnon and Castagne providing width as wide midfielders. Berge and King form a double pivot to control the center of the pitch. Berge acts as the carrier to drive forward with the ball, while King works to shield the defence and deny the pivot of the opposition. This midfield unit works to compress the midfield and ensure they are not bypassed easily. They connect the defensive unit to the front three by recycling possession and finding the feet of the attackers.

In the attacking phase, Fulham uses three attackers across the front. G. García acts as the lone striker, looking to hold up the ball and find the feet of the runners. Smith Rowe and Bobb act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create central overloads. This movement creates space for Sessegnon and Castagne to overlap the winger and deliver crosses into the box. The forwards are expected to press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.

One major strength for Fulham is the ability to create wide overloads. When Sessegnon and Castagne push forward, they combine with Smith Rowe and Bobb to overwhelm the opposition full backs. Another advantage is the speed of transition once Berge or King win the second ball. The team can move from a mid-block to a direct attack very quickly, hitting in behind on the transition to catch the opposition.

This 3-4-3 formation provides a platform for aggressive, high intensity football. It is best suited for games against teams that play a high line and can be punished by quick movements in the half spaces.
