Alcaraz connects the defensive and attacking lines by carrying the ball forward into the middle third. Together, they must cover a lot of ground to prevent the opposition from playing through the lines when the team loses possession.

The attack features two forwards in a partnership of Dewsbury-Hall and Barry to lead the line. They work to pin the last defender and hold up the ball for others. On the flanks, Grealish acts as an inverted winger who cuts inside to create chances, while Johnson stays wide to stretch the defence. This front four is designed to attack in combinations, using runs in behind to exploit space left by advancing opponents.

A major advantage for Everton is the ability to overwhelm the opposition defence through numbers in transition. The wide players can create overloads when they combine with the full backs. Another strength is the verticality of the team, as they can move from a mid-block to a full attack with very few passes.
