The midfield consists of a double pivot designed to provide a screen for the defense. Fadinger and Hodge operate as the two central midfielders who sit in front of the back four. Their main job is to protect the center of the pitch, win the second ball, and recycle possession when the attack stalls. Fadinger and Hodge must work to compress the midfield and ensure that the gap between the defense and the front four remains small. They act as the vital link that allows the team to transition from a mid-block into a direct attack.

In the final third, Motherwell employs four attackers to pin the last defender. Kanga plays as the right winger and Maswanhise operates on the left, both of whom look to cut inside and create threats. The central attacking roles are filled by Lowry and Said, who operate as a partnership of two forwards. This duo can work in combinations to hold up the ball or play one-two passes to break the line. The wingers, Kanga and Maswanhise, spread wide to stretch the defense before looking to find the feet of the strikers.

A primary advantage for Motherwell is the ability to press from the front with a heavy four-man unit.
