Starting Lineup

Horn · Seidl · J. Auer · Raux Yao · Cvetkovic · Bolla · Dahl · Y. Demir · Adamsen · Wurmbrand · Hedl

SK Rapid focuses on extreme verticality and aggressive pressing through an unconventional 2-5-3 formation. This lineup aims to overwhelm the opposition in the final third by flooding the central zones and using the wide areas to stretch the defense. It is a high risk, high reward system built to win the ball high up the pitch and strike before the opponent can settle into a defensive block.

Hedl acts as the lone man behind the defensive line, tasked with sweeping behind a high line when the team pushes forward. Raux Yao and Cvetkovic form a narrow two man central defense, where they must be dominant in the air and quick to intercept any long balls played over the top. Because there are only two central defenders, they must hold the line and communicate constantly to cover the massive spaces left behind when the midfield pushes up.

The midfield is a dense block designed to dominate the center of the pitch. Bolla and J. Auer work as a double pivot to shield the defense and protect the two center backs. Horn and Seidl operate as inverted eights, looking to drive forward with the ball or make late runs into the box to support the attack. Y. Demir plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to find the feet of the forwards or play through the lines to break the opposition's resistance.

In the attacking third, the front line uses three attackers to pin the last defender. Adamsen acts as a pressing centre forward to harass the opposition back line and force a long ball. Dahl and Wurmbrand operate as wide wingers who cut inside to create numerical superiority in the middle, leaving the flanks open for the midfielders to exploit. This setup creates many combinations in tight spaces, often relying on quick one-two passing to split the defense.

SK Rapid gains a massive tactical advantage through numerical superiority in the midfield, making it very hard for opponents to play through the center. The formation also allows for heavy pressure in coordinated waves, as the five midfielders and three attackers can all press in pairs to squeeze the space. This high intensity can quickly force turnovers in dangerous areas, allowing the team to transition into attack at great pace.

This formation is a heavy pressing system designed to dominate possession and territory through sheer numbers in the middle. It is best suited for games against opponents who struggle to play out from the back under intense pressure.
