Starting Lineup

Horn · Seidl · J. Auer · Raux Yao · Cvetkovic · Bolla · Dahl · Tilio · Adamsen · Wurmbrand · Hedl

SK Rapid relies on a vertical style of play using a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm the opposition in the final third and win the ball back high up the pitch. The intention is to control the central areas while using wide players to stretch the defence, creating chaos during transitions.

Hedl sits in goal to manage the back line. The defensive unit consists of a central pair with Raux Yao and Cvetkovic. Cvetkovic acts as a ball playing defender to start attacks, while Raux Yao provides cover to sweep behind the high line. This duo must hold the line carefully as they often face one on one situations when the team presses high.

The midfield is a dense block designed to dominate the center of the pitch. Bolla and J. Auer operate as a double pivot to shield the defence and recycle possession. Horn and Seidl act as inverted eights who drive forward with the ball and arrive late into the box to cause trouble. Tilio plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to find the feet of the striker or play through the lines to break the opposition block.

In the attacking third, SK Rapid uses three attackers to pin the last defender. Adamsen plays as a pressing centre-forward to force long balls from the opposition. Dahl and Wurmbrand act as wide wingers who hug the touchline to provide maximum width. This setup allows the team to build in triangles and create space for Tilio to operate in the pockets between the lines.

One major advantage for SK Rapid is the numerical superiority in midfield, which allows them to control the tempo and win the second ball. The formation also creates wide overloads when the midfielders push up to support the wingers. This helps the team to quickly switch play and isolate wide players in one on one situations against the full backs.

This formation is a high risk, high reward system that prioritizes offensive pressure. It is best suited for matches where the team needs to break down a low block or dominate an opponent through central control.
