Starting Lineup

Todd · Kai · Tyler H · Baylen · Lawson · Henry · Johnathan · Tyler M · Max · Blake · Andrew

Brazil focuses on a compact defensive unit and quick transitions through a 5-4-1 formation. This lineup is built to sit deep and deny space between the lines, waiting for the right moment to strike on the break. The team relies on a heavy defensive block to frustrate opponents and stays narrow to protect the central areas.

Kai acts as the last line of defense behind a back five. The defensive line consists of Baylen, Henry, and Lawson playing as the central trio, while Tyler H and Todd operate as attacking wing backs. Henry and Lawson work together to secure the central zones, while Baylen provides cover. Tyler H and Todd are responsible for providing width, though they must track back to maintain a narrow defensive block when the opposition has the ball. This unit works to squeeze the space and force the opponent wide.

The midfield operates in a flat four to protect the central zone. Andrew and Blake form the central pairing, with Blake often acting as the player to shield the defense while Andrew looks to carry the ball forward. Johnathan and Tyler M occupy the wide areas as left and right midfielders. Johnathan and Tyler M must tuck inside to help the central block and prevent opponents from playing through the lines. This midfield unit connects the defense to the lone striker, recycling possession to find gaps in the opponent's back line.

Max operates as a lone pressing centre-forward. Because Brazil plays with a single striker, Max must hold up the ball and work to win the second ball to keep attacks alive. The attack is built through rapid transitions where Johnathan and Tyler M push forward to support Max. The wing backs, Tyler H and Todd, often overlap to provide crosses into the box or to stretch the defence. Max is tasked with pinning the last defender to create space for the midfielders to arrive late into the box.

Brazil gains a clear advantage through its compactness when defending in a low block. The five defenders and four midfielders make it very difficult for opponents to find passing lanes through the middle. Another strength is the ability to use the wing backs to create wide overloads during a counter attack. By sitting deep, the team can use the speed of transition to catch the opposition while they are pushed high up the pitch.

This 5-4-1 formation is a defensive specialist lineup designed to absorb pressure. It is best suited for games against technically superior teams that dominate possession.
