RB Salzburg focuses on high pressing and quick transitions through a 5-2-3 formation. Früchtl acts as the last line of defense in goal. The back five consists of Vermeeren, Boma, and Schmid forming a central unit, while Veratschnig and Krätzig operate as attacking wing backs. Vermeeren acts as the central anchor, with Boma and Schmid providing cover on either side to defend zonally. The wing backs, Veratschnig and Krätzig, are tasked to push high to provide width, leaving the three center backs to hold the line and cover any space left behind.

The midfield functions as a double pivot with Lindstrøm and Kitano working to control the center. Lindstrøm and Kitano must work together to press in a mid-block when the front three cannot win the ball immediately. They are responsible for recycling possession and picking up runners from deep to connect the defensive line to the attack. Their main job is to deny the pivot of the opposition and win the second ball to restart attacks quickly.

RB Salzburg utilizes three attackers across the front with Konaté acting as a pressing centre-forward. Vertessen and Redzic operate as wide wingers who want to stretch the defence by pulling wide and looking to cut inside. Konaté works to pin the last defender and hold up the ball to allow Vertessen and Redzic to arrive late into the box. The front line is designed to press from the front, forcing the opposition to play long balls that the back five can easily clear the lines.
