A central trio consisting of Dinu and Hodut acts as a double pivot with an advanced ten, Ivan, sitting just behind the strikers. Dinu and Hodut are tasked to shield the defence and win the second ball, while Ivan works to find the feet of the striker or play through the lines. On the flanks, Badita and Stanculeanu provide the necessary width to stretch the defence, helping to compress the midfield when the team defends in a mid block.

The attacking front line features three attackers who work in close combinations. Petre acts as the central striker, often tasked to hold up the ball or run in behind the last defender to create chaos. He is supported by Badea on the left and Baroiu on the right, who operate as wide wingers. Badea and Baroiu often cut inside to create central overloads, allowing for quick one two passes in tight spaces. This front three works to press from the front, forcing the opposition to play long balls that the central defenders can clear the lines.

One major tactical strength of this Romania lineup is the ability to create wide overloads using the combination of the wingers and the wide midfielders. By having Badita and Stanculeanu spread wide, the team can isolate wide players in one on one situations. Additionally, the presence of Ivan between the lines allows for rapid transitions, making the team very dangerous when they break quickly after winning possession in the middle third.
