Brighton Football Formation
Starting Lineup
JASON (STEELE) · COSTINHA · MICHAEL (SVOBODA) · PASCAL (STRUIJK) · JAOUEN (HADJAM) · CHEMA (ANDRÉS) · PASCAL (GROSS) · MATT (O'RILEY) · FEMI (AZEEZ) · MAXIM (DE CUYPER) · GEORGINIO (RÜTTER)Brighton aims to control games through high pressing and rapid ball movement in a 4-3-3. This formation is built to win the ball high up the pitch and quickly progress through the thirds to catch opponents off guard. The team relies on constant movement and pressing triggers to dominate territory and force errors.
Jason sits between the posts to organize the back line. The defense operates as a flat back four where JAOUEN acts as an attacking left back to provide width. COSTINHA provides balance on the right, often looking to overlap the winger. In the center, MICHAEL and PASCAL hold a high line to squeeze the space. MICHAEL acts as a ball playing defender to start attacks, while PASCAL covers the space behind to sweep up long balls. This unit works to keep the team compact and prevent any easy passes into the central area.
The midfield works as a three man midfield with a carrier and a playmaker. PASCAL operates in a deep role to shield the defense and win the second ball. CHEMA connects the defensive and attacking lines by carrying the ball forward into the middle third. MATT plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to arrive late into the box and find pockets of space between the lines. This trio ensures Brighton can recycle possession and switch play quickly to find openings.
Brighton utilizes three attackers across the front to stretch the defense. GEORGINIO acts as a pressing centre-forward to lead the hunt from the front. On the flanks, MAXIM and FEMI operate as inverted wingers who cut inside to create central overloads. These movements create space for the full backs to push up. The attack is designed to create runs in behind and isolate wide players in one on one situations during transitions.
One major strength of this lineup is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to play out from the back. The team also gains numerical superiority in midfield when MATT pushes forward, forcing the opposition to track his runs. This creates chaos in the opponent's defensive block and allows Brighton to exploit the resulting gaps.
The Brighton 4-3-3 is a high intensity formation designed to dominate possession and press relentlessly. It is best suited for games against teams that struggle to play out under pressure or fail to track runners in the half spaces.
