Genoa relies on a high press and rapid transitions through a 3-5-2. This lineup is built to squeeze the space in the middle of the pitch and force errors from the opponent. By using a compact middle section, Genoa looks to win the ball back high up the pitch and strike quickly before the opposition can recover.

JUSTIN stays between the posts to anchor the defensive unit. The back line functions as a back three where JOHAN acts as the left centre-back and ALESSANDRO plays as the right centre-back. LEO sits in the middle to organize the defensive line and cover for his teammates. This three man unit works to defend zonally and ensure they do not get caught out by long balls. They focus on holding a compact shape to deny space behind them.

The midfield is a dense block designed to dominate the center. MORTEN and DJIBRIL form a double pivot to shield the defence and break up play. Ahead of them, KINGSLEY, MARIO, and TOMMASO operate in a three man midfield to control the tempo. KINGSLEY and MARIO look to carry the ball forward and connect the defensive and attacking lines. TOMMASO works to find pockets of space between the lines to link the play. This group aims to press in a mid-block and quickly recycle possession once they win it back.

Genoa uses a two man partnership in the final third. STEPHAN plays as the left striker and LORENZO plays as the right striker to stretch the defence. They work in combinations to create runs in behind the opposition back line. When the team attacks, they look to use the width provided by the midfielders to create overloads. The two forwards press from the front to force a long ball and win the second ball in the attacking half.

A major advantage for Genoa is the numerical superiority in midfield. With five players in the center, they can easily compress the midfield and win duels. The coordination of the five players allows for a high press in coordinated waves that can suffocate an opponent. This setup also allows for great speed of transition when the ball is won in the middle third.

This 3-5-2 formation provides a heavy presence in the center of the park. It is best suited for games against teams that try to play through the middle and struggle against physical, high pressing units.
