Lyon focuses on a high press and quick vertical play through a 4-3-3. This formation is built to win the ball back high up the pitch and immediately attack the opposition defense with speed. The team aims to stretch the pitch and use constant movement to break the lines.

RÉMY acts as the last line of defense in goal. The defensive unit works in a flat back four where STEEVE plays as a right back and ABNER operates as a left back. Both full backs are expected to push forward to support the attack. In the center, RUBEN and CLINTON form the heart of the defense, with RUBEN acting as a ball playing defender to help play out from the back. CLINTON provides cover and focuses on winning the headers when the ball is played long. The unit must hold a high line to keep the team compact.

A three man midfield controls the center of the pitch. MADS and KHALIS act as the central engines, with MADS driving forward with the ball while KHALIS shields the defense. NOAH plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to find pockets of space between the lines. NOAH connects the midfield to the front three by receiving the ball on the half-turn and playing through the lines. This group works to compress the midfield and trigger a press whenever the opponent tries to build play.

The attacking line uses three attackers to pin the last defender. ALEJANDRO plays as a pressing centre-forward, looking to hold up the ball and lay it off to teammates. JULIEN and ERNEST operate as wide wingers, with JULIEN on the left and ERNEST on the right. Both players often cut inside to create central overloads. The intention is to use the width provided by ABNER and STEEVE to create one on one situations for the wingers or to whip it in toward the near post.

Lyon gains a significant advantage through the ability to press high in coordinated waves. By using the front three to force a long ball, the team can quickly win the second ball and transition into attack. Another strength is the wide overloads created when the full backs overlap the wingers. This movement forces the opposition to defend in much larger spaces, allowing the players to find the feet of the striker or hit in behind on the transition.
