Arouca seeks to control games through a high press and verticality, operating within a 4-3-3 formation. This lineup focuses on winning the ball high up the pitch to catch opponents out of position. By pushing the defensive line forward, the team creates more space in the middle to drive through the thirds. This system is built to play with speed and directness once the ball is recovered.

Ignacio acts as the last line of defense, often needing to sweep behind a high line to cover long balls. The defensive unit maintains a high line consisting of José and Boris as the central pair. Boris provides aerial strength and physical presence, while José works to intercept passes and cover space. On the flanks, Mario and Tiago act as attacking full backs, looking to overlap the wingers and provide width. This back four works to compress the space between the lines and keep the team compact.

The midfield functions as a three-man unit that connects the defense to the attack. Taichi and Espen play as the central engine, with Taichi looking to press aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch. Espen acts as a carrier to drive forward with the ball and transition the play. Hyun-ju plays in the hole as an attacking ten, finding space between the opposition midfield and defense to create chances. This group works to recycle possession and find ways to break the line of the opponent.

Arouca utilizes three attackers to stretch the defense across the pitch. Naïs and Alfonso play as wide wingers, with Alfonso looking to cut inside and Naïs pulling wide to cross. Iván operates as a pressing centre-forward, tasked to pin the last defender and hold up the ball for others. The attack relies on combinations to create runs in behind or to find the feet of the striker. By spreading wide, the wingers force the opposition defense to move, opening gaps for late runs into the box.

One major strength for Arouca is the ability to press high in coordinated waves to force errors. The team can also create wide overloads when Mario and Tiago push forward to support the wingers. This creates situations where they can isolate wide players in one on one battles. The tactical flexibility allows them to transition quickly from a mid-block to a direct attacking threat.

This 4-3-3 formation prioritizes high intensity and quick ball movement to overwhelm opponents. It is best suited for games against teams that play with a high defensive line or struggle to manage pressure in their own half.
