West Ham focuses on a direct and vertical style of play with a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to exploit spaces in the transition and pin the opposition back through a heavy attacking presence. The goal is to use the front four to stretch the defence and create quick attacking opportunities.

Mads operates between the posts to guard the goal. The defensive unit sits in a flat back four with Joël at right back and Oliver at left back. FELIPE and Kontantinos form the central pairing where they must defend zonally and cover the space behind the full backs. Joël and Oliver are tasked to push up when the team has the ball, while FELIPE and Kontantinos hold the line to prevent being caught out.

The midfield functions as a double pivot to provide a screen for the back four. Tomas and Edson operate in the center to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Edson acts to shield the defence and win the second ball, while Tomas seeks to carry the ball forward and progress through the thirds. This pairing must stay compact to deny the turn to opposing attackers and manage the space between the lines.

The attack is extremely aggressive with four players positioned high up the pitch. Manor and Jarrod act as wide wingers, with Jarrod often cutting inside to create central presence. JOËL and Taty operate as a central partnership, where JOËL acts as a pressing centre-forward to harass the back line. This front line is designed to win it back high up the pitch and create runs in behind through combinations and quick service.

West Ham gains a significant advantage through their ability to create wide overloads and numerical superiority in the final third. The formation allows for rapid attacks where Manor or Jarrod can isolate a one on one wide. Additionally, the presence of JOËL and Taty allows the team to win the header and compete physically against opposing centre backs.

This 4-2-4 formation provides West Ham with a high ceiling for goal scoring through rapid transitions. It is best suited for games against teams that play a high line and leave space behind their defenders.
