The midfield relies on a three man midfield with a carrier to link the lines. CASPAR plays as one of the inverted eights, looking to connect the defense to the attack and press in a mid-block. JAMES operates in the right central channel to drive forward with the ball and support the wide areas. Sitting just ahead of them, FINN plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to find pockets of space. This trio works to win the second ball and ensure the team remains compact when defending.

In the final third, the team uses three attackers across the front to pin the last defender. LÉO and KURYU act as wide wingers who cut inside to create chances for the central runner. CYLE acts as the lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and make runs in behind the defensive line. The forwards work to trigger a press from the front, forcing long balls from the opposition. This attacking setup creates many cutbacks from the byline and allows the team to attack in combinations.

Southampton possess several tactical advantages with this lineup. The presence of FINN allows for numerical superiority in the half spaces, making it difficult for opponents to mark everyone.
