Antwerp Football Formation
Starting Lineup
YANNICK (THOELEN) · SEMM (RENDERS) · ERAN (TUYPENS) · REIN VAN (HELDEN) · LUCA (SCHELFHOUT) · BAHMED (DEUFF) · XANDER (DIERCKX) · FAROUCK (ADEKAMI) · KOKI (ANDO) · SNAYDER (POROZO) · LUIS (NARH)Antwerp looks to play a direct and aggressive style of football using a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup focuses on high intensity and verticality to stretch the opposition. The goal is to use the wide areas and a heavy front line to overwhelm the defensive unit of the other side.
Yannick stays between the posts to organize the defensive line. Antwerp operates with a flat back four that must remain compact when the ball is lost. Luca and Rein Van act as the central defenders, where Luca provides cover while Rein Van looks to win the second ball. Eran plays as the left back to provide width, while Semm acts as the right back to manage the defensive duties on the opposite flank. The unit must hold the line to prevent runs in behind.
The midfield is built around a double pivot consisting of Bahmed and Xander. Both players need to work hard to shield the defence and win back possession in the middle third. Bahmed works to connect the defensive and attacking lines, while Xander is tasked to carry the ball forward and drive into the half spaces. They must stay disciplined to avoid being bypassed by central runners, as the distance between the midfield and the front four is significant.
The attacking structure is very aggressive with four players positioned high up the pitch. Snayder and Luis operate as two forwards in a partnership, where they work to pin the last defender and look for runs in behind. Koki and Farouck act as wide wingers who hug the touchline to create maximum width. This setup allows Koki to cut inside to find space, while Farouck works to get to the byline and deliver crosses. The front four are expected to press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.
One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads when the full backs push up to support the wingers. Antwerp can also use the presence of four attackers to isolate defenders in one on one situations during a quick break. This creates constant pressure on the opposition back line and makes it difficult for them to defend the wide areas and the center simultaneously.
This formation is designed for teams that want to play with high risk and high reward through rapid transitions. It is best suited for matches against opponents who play a low block and can be caught out by speed in the wide channels.
