PSV Football Formation
Starting Lineup
NICK (OLIJ) · KILIANN (SILDILLIA) · ARMANDO (OBISPO) · RYAN (FLAMINGO) · FILIP (KOSTIC) · NOAH (FERNANDEZ) · PAUL (WANNER) · SVEN (MIJNANS) · DENNIS (MAN) · ESMIR (BAJRAKTAREVIC) · SAM (LAMMERS)PSV focuses on a heavy high press and rapid verticality through a 4-3-3. This formation is built to win it back high up the pitch and exploit space quickly. The team wants to dominate the ball in the final third and use wide players to stretch the defence.
Nick sits between the posts to act as the first point of distribution. The defensive unit operates with a flat back four that can push up to squeeze the space. Kiliann acts as a right back to provide width, while Filip operates as a left back. In the middle, Armando and Ryan function as the central defenders, where Armando can step into midfield to help with ball progression and Ryan provides cover. The unit works together to maintain a high line and set the offside trap.
The midfield functions as a three-man midfield with a carrier and a creative link. Paul and Noah work to control the center, with Paul often dropping deep to shield the defence and collect from the centre-backs. Noah connects the defensive and attacking lines by carrying the ball forward into the half-spaces. Sven plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to arrive late into the box and find pockets of space between the lines. This group ensures PSV can transition from a mid-block into an attack through quick passing.
An attacking trio leads the front line to pin the last defender. Sam plays as a lone striker, using his presence to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. Esmir and Dennis act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create goal scoring chances. Dennis looks to isolate a one on one wide, while Esmir searches for space to drive at the defence. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition, allowing the back four to reclaim possession.
This lineup offers several tactical advantages. PSV can create wide overloads when Kiliann and Dennis combine to bypass the opponent. The team is also capable of pressing in coordinated waves to win the ball back high up the pitch. The presence of Sven in the hole allows for numerical superiority in the attacking third, making it difficult for opponents to track runners.
The 4-3-3 provides a platform for aggressive, high intensity football. It is best suited for matches against teams that play a high line or struggle to play out from the back.
