Rome-Jayden acts as the last line of defense, staying alert to sweep behind a high line when the team pushes forward. The back four consists of a flat back four where Mateo operates as the left back and Seiya plays as the right back. Wesley serves as the right centre back to provide strength, while Wouter plays as the left centre back to cover space. The defensive unit works together to maintain a high line, meaning they must step up to catch strikers offside and keep the distance between the lines tight.

The midfield operates as a three-man midfield with a carrier role to drive the team forward. Peer and Valdemar work to control the central zones, with one player often dropping to help the defense while the other looks to progress through the thirds. Kees plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to link the midfield and the attack. Kees is tasked to find the feet of the striker or arrive late into the box to cause chaos. This midfield group works to recycle possession and ensure the team remains compact when they do not have the ball.

In the final third, the team utilizes three attackers across the front. Mexx leads the line as a pressing centre-forward, working to pin the last defender and harass the opposition build up. On the flanks, Calvin acts as an inverted winger on the left to cut inside, while Weslley stays wide as a winger on the right to provide width. The attacking moves often involve overlaps from the full backs to create two on one situations. They look to hit in behind on the transition or use cutbacks from the byline to find Mexx in central areas.

One major advantage for AZ is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to play out from the back. The presence of Kees in the hole provides numerical superiority in the attacking half. Another strength is the speed of transition, as the players are coached to move the ball quickly from a win in midfield to the wide players.
