GUSTAVO drives forward with the ball to bridge the gap between the lines. LIMA plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, finding pockets of space to receive on the half-turn and play through the lines. This trio connects the defensive unit to the front line by recycling possession and moving the ball quickly.

In the attacking third, Santos uses three attackers across the front. RONY acts as a pressing centre-forward to lead the hunt for the ball and harass the opposition defenders. On the flanks, ÁLVARO and BENJAMÍN operate as wide wingers who look to cut inside to create central overloads. They use combinations to pull the defense apart, often looking to deliver crosses or play one-twos to find RONY in the box. The movement of the wingers creates space for LIMA to arrive late into the box.

One major advantage for Santos is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, using the front three to squeeze the space.
