Starting Lineup

A heavy focus on verticality and direct attacking play defines this lineup in a 2-4-4. This formation is built to overwhelm the opposition by pushing many players high up the pitch to force errors and quick turnovers. The goal is to bypass the middle of the park and get the ball into the final third as fast as possible.

Cedric stays between the posts to manage the defensive line from the back. The back line consists of a simple pair of central defenders, Biel and Marlin, who must work hard to cover huge amounts of grass. These two act as ball playing defenders when the team plays out from the back, but they also need to be ready to step up and catch strikers offside. Because there are only two defenders, Biel and Marlin must stay compact to avoid being split by through balls.

The midfield operates as a wide bank of four to control the central channels and provide support to the front line. Nils and Arjan form the central pairing, where Nils acts as a carrier to drive the ball forward while Arjan works to shield the two defenders. On the flanks, Lenny and Freddy play as wide midfielders who need to track back to help the defense and also support the wingers. This midfield unit works to win the second ball and recycle possession quickly to keep the pressure on the opponent.

The attack is incredibly aggressive with four players working in the final third. Julian and Magnus operate as two forwards in a partnership, often using their physicality to hold up the ball or run in behind the defense. Julia and Finn play as wide wingers who hug the touchline to stretch the defense wide. This creates space for Julian and Magnus to find room in the middle. The front four press from the front to trigger a press high up the pitch and force the opposition to clear the lines.

This lineup offers immense speed of transition and the ability to create wide overloads when the wingers and wide midfielders move together. By committing so many players to the attack, the team can quickly overwhelm a back four. The main advantage is the constant pressure applied to the opposition defense, making it very difficult for them to play out from the back.

This high risk formation relies on quick transitions and heavy pressing to dominate games. It is best suited for matches against opponents who struggle to handle intense pressure and high defensive lines.
