M. Neuer guards the goal while the defensive unit maintains a deep block. The back line operates as a back three with Rodri acting as the central anchor. F. Baresi (C) leads the defense as the ball playing centre back, while A. Nesta provides cover and handles physical battles. On the flanks, P. Maldini acts as a defensive wing back to squeeze the space on the left, and P. Lahm pushes up as an attacking wing back on the right to provide width.

The midfield works as a three man midfield with a carrier and a playmaker. N. Kanté presses aggressively to win the ball high and covers vast amounts of ground to protect the back line. L. Matthäus drives forward with the ball and uses his immense stamina to link the defence and attack. D. Maradona operates as an attacking ten behind the strikers, looking to play through the lines and find space between the opposition lines.

Al-Nassr utilizes two forwards in a partnership to lead the line. R. Lewandowski acts as a pressing centre forward to harass the opposition back line, while M. van Basten operates as a second striker in the hole to hold up the ball. The attack relies on the service from the midfield and the width provided by P. Lahm to create runs in behind. They look to combine in tight spaces and use quick one twos to split the defence.

A major strength for Al-Nassr is the defensive compactness provided by the back five and the high energy of the midfield trio.
