Independiente looks to dominate through a high press and rapid transitions using a 5-2-3. This lineup aims to win the ball back high up the pitch and quickly hit the opposition in behind. The team wants to squeeze the space in the middle and use the width of the pitch to stretch the defense when they move forward.

L. Bonifacio plays between the posts to organize the back five. The defensive unit operates as a narrow defensive block with three central defenders. G. Bevilacqua and F. Fazio hold the line while F. Roldán provides cover. F. Polo, who is the captain (C), and N. Cimino act as attacking wing backs to provide width. F. Polo is tasked to overlap the winger and push high, while N. Cimino provides support on the opposite flank to ensure the team maintains balance.

The midfield relies on a double pivot consisting of N. Cati and T. Franch. These two players must work hard to compress the midfield and protect the space in front of the back three. N. Cati and T. Franch are responsible for winning the second ball and recycling possession to the wide areas. They must also pick up runners from deep to prevent the opposition from playing through the lines. This pairing serves as the link between the defensive unit and the front three.

In the attacking third, Independiente uses three attackers across the front. A. Maldonado and L. González act as wide wingers who hug the touchline to create space in the middle. M. Roldán operates as a pressing centre-forward to force long balls from the opposition. The wingers look to cut inside and find the feet of the striker or deliver early crosses into the box. When the team wins the ball, the wing backs push up to create wide overloads, allowing the attackers to work in combinations in tight spaces.

One major strength of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves. By using the front three to trigger a press, Independiente can win the ball high up the pitch. Another advantage is the width provided by the wing backs, which allows the team to stretch the defense and isolate wide players in one on one situations. The compactness of the back five also makes them very difficult to break down when they drop into a low block.

Independiente uses this 5-2-3 to suffocate opponents and strike on the break. This formation is best suited for games where the team needs to absorb pressure before hitting the opposition at pace.
