Starting Lineup

Sawa (47) · Rybacki (10) · Materac (14) · Wegner (5) · Lic (12) · Remiszka (9) · Kurs (6) · Kosmela (15) · Drewek (8) · Prondziński (19) · Klessa (3)

A heavy focus on defensive solidity and direct verticality defines this lineup in a 5-4-1. The team aims to sit deep and deny space in the middle, looking to win the ball and hit in behind on the transition. This formation is built to absorb pressure and frustrate opponents who want to control the ball.

Sawa stays between the posts to organize the unit. The defensive block uses a back five consisting of Rybacki, Remiszka, and Kurs in the center. Rybacki acts as the central anchor, while Remiszka and Kurs cover the spaces to the left and right. The wing backs, Drewek and Prondziński, provide the width. Drewek acts as an attacking wing back on the left to stretch the play, while Prondziński does the same on the right. This five man unit works to stay compact and prevent any penetrative passes.

The midfield works as a flat four to block passing lanes. Materac sits in a single pivot role to shield the defense and win the second ball. Kosmela and Wegner operate as two central midfielders who press in a mid-block to disrupt the opposition. Klessa also works in the central area to help compress the midfield and prevent the opponent from playing through the lines. This group must stay disciplined to ensure they do not leave gaps between the lines for the opposition to exploit.

In the attacking phase, the team relies on a lone striker, Lic, to hold up the ball and wait for support. Lic works as a pressing centre forward to force the opposition back line into mistakes. When the team wins the ball, the plan is to find the feet of the striker or hit in behind with quick runs. Drewek and Prondziński push up to provide width, allowing the team to move the ball quickly from the deep defensive block into the final third.

One major advantage is the compactness when defending, making it very hard for opponents to find gaps in the central zones. The team also gains wide overloads when Drewek and Prondziński push forward, creating situations where they can cross on the run. This formation allows the team to switch between a deep block and a quick counter at pace very effectively.

This 5-4-1 formation is built to be a defensive wall that punishes teams on the break. It is best suited for facing heavy possession sides that struggle to defend against rapid transitions.
