Levante Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Navas · Mjalby/Pubil · Lauren · Caceres/Mustafi · Zé Maria · Damiano Tomasi · Cruyff · Martins · Kone · Larent Robert · AvelardzeLevante focuses on high pressure and verticality through a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to dominate the pitch by overwhelming opponents in the middle and through quick transitions. The goal is to win it back high up the pitch and push the opposition back into their own territory using a heavy concentration of players in the central areas.
Navas stays behind a very high line to act as a sweeper when the team pushes up. The back line consists of a central pairing with Mjalby/Pubil and Caceres/Mustafi who must be ready to cover huge spaces behind them. These two central defenders need to be quick to deal with runners as the team operates with a very narrow defensive block in the center. The defensive unit must stay compact to ensure they are not bypassed easily during a counter attack.
The midfield is the engine of Levante and functions as a five man unit that covers every zone. Zé Maria sits in front of the defenders as a single pivot to shield the defense and recycle possession. Lauren works as a right central midfielder to drive forward with the ball, while Damiano Tomasi operates on the left to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Cruyff and Avelardze occupy the half spaces as attacking midfielders to press aggressively and win the ball high up the pitch.
The front line uses three attackers to stretch the defense and pin the last defender. Martins acts as the lone striker to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. Kone plays as an inverted winger on the right to cut inside, while Larent Robert stays wide on the left to spread wide. This front three is designed to create runs in behind and isolate wide players in one on one situations when the midfield pushes them forward.
Levante possesses several tactical advantages due to this heavy occupation of the middle. They can create numerical superiority in midfield to control the rhythm and win the second ball. The ability to press high in coordinated waves from the front three and the five midfielders makes it very difficult for opponents to play out from the back. This setup also allows for wide overloads when the midfielders push into the final third.
This formation is built for teams that want to suffocate the opposition and play with high intensity. It is best suited for matches against opponents who struggle to play under pressure and cannot bypass a crowded midfield.
