Starting Lineup

Colleter · Sassus · Gomes · Roche · Le Guen · Fournier · Guerin · Weah · Valdo · Ginola · Lama

PSG focuses on a vertical style of play to catch opponents on the break, utilizing a 4-4-2 formation. This lineup is built to transition quickly from a mid-block into attack, looking to exploit spaces behind the opposition defense. The goal is to use the directness of the forwards to punish teams that push too high.

Lama guards the goal while the defense maintains a flat back four. Sassus acts as the right back to provide width, while Colleter plays as the left back. In the center, Roche and Gomes operate as the central defensive pair, working to win the second ball and cover for one another. This defensive unit aims to stay compact to deny central passing lanes and force the play wide.

The midfield operates with a diamond-like influence despite the 4-4-2 lineup. Le Guen sits in the pivot to shield the defense and recycle possession. Guerin and Fournier occupy the central roles, with Guerin looking to drive forward with the ball while Fournier helps to compress the midfield. Valdo plays as an attacking ten behind the strikers, tasked to find the feet of the forwards and play through the lines to create chances.

PSG utilizes two forwards in a partnership to stretch the opposition. Ginola plays as the left striker, often looking to cut inside and create space, while Weah acts as the right striker to run in behind the defense. They press from the front to trigger a press in the mid-block, forcing long balls from the opposition. The movement between Ginola and Weah is designed to create runs in behind and allow Valdo to find pockets of space.

One major advantage for PSG is the speed of transition when the ball is won in the middle third. The team can quickly switch play to the wide areas or go direct to the two forwards. Another strength is the ability of the midfield quartet to provide coverage across the pitch, ensuring they can double up on wide attackers while maintaining a presence in the center.

This formation is designed to play a direct, counter attacking game. It is best suited for matches against teams that commit many players forward and leave large gaps behind their defensive line.
