Zanetti and Nagatomo provide the energy to press in a mid block and win the second ball, while Marchisio plays as an attacking ten to find space between the opposition lines. This midfield unit must work hard to protect the two defenders and ensure the team does not get bypassed too easily.

The attack is a massive front four designed to pin the last defender and stretch the defence. Pjanić and Suárez play as two central forwards, with Suárez often looking to hold up the ball and Pjanić looking to arrive late into the box. Lamela plays as a wide winger on the right to pull wide and get to the byline, while Jovetic operates on the left to cut inside and find pockets of space. This heavy front line aims to create chaos through combinations and quick passing in tight spaces.
