The midfield operates with a three man midfield with a carrier to link the play. Jorginho and Erick sit in the central areas to shield the defence and recycle possession. Erick works to drive forward with the ball and break the line with his passing. Giorgian operates as an attacking ten behind the striker, finding pockets of space to create. This trio works to press in a mid-block and win the ball back quickly to keep the pressure on the opposition.

Flamengo uses three attackers across the front to pin the last defender. Pedro acts as a pressing centre-forward who holds up the ball and finds the feet of his teammates. Samuel stays wide on the left to stretch the opposition, while Jorge acts as an inverted winger who cuts inside to attack the half-spaces. The goal is to create runs in behind and use the width provided by the full backs to deliver crosses into the box. The front line is tasked to trigger a press as soon as the ball is lost.
