Gabriel acts as the last line of defense, starting the build up from the back. The back four consists of Caio and João as the full backs, with Wagner and Wallace playing as the central defenders. Caio and João are expected to push high to provide width, while Wagner and Wallace hold a high line to keep the team compact. Wagner serves as a ball playing defender to progress the ball, while Wallace provides strength to win the second ball. The defensive unit works together to maintain a high line and trigger a press when the ball enters their zone.

The midfield works to control the center through a three man midfield with a carrier and a creative link. José plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, occupying the pockets of space between the lines. Danilo and Juan operate in the central areas to provide balance, with Danilo often acting as the player who connects the defensive and attacking lines. Juan can drive forward with the ball to transition the play, while both players work to intercept passes and press in a mid-block. This trio ensures Grêmio can recycle possession and protect the back four when the full backs push forward.

Grêmio utilizes three attackers across the front to stretch the opposition. Martin plays as a lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and pin the last defender. On the flanks, Tetê and Jovane act as wide wingers who hug the touchline to spread the defense wide. Tetê and Jovane often look to cut inside to create goal scoring chances or deliver crosses into the box. The front line is designed to press the opposition back line from the front, creating space for late runs from the midfield.
