The midfield functions as a five man unit designed to control the center. Macallister sits in a single pivot role to shield the defence and recycle possession. Beside him, Virgil van Dijk (C) operates as a central midfielder who drives forward with the ball, while Jacquet plays as an inverted eight to connect the lines. On the flanks, Kerkez operates as a left midfielder to provide width, and Araujo plays on the right to help win the second ball. This midfield group works together to press in a mid-block when the ball is lost.

The attacking phase relies on a lone striker, Allison, who acts as a pressing centre-forward to force a long ball from the opposition. Because the formation lacks a natural second striker, the width comes from Kerkez and Araujo pushing high. The team looks to play through the lines using the midfielders to find the feet of the striker or to hit in behind on the transition. The forwards press from the front to ensure the opposition cannot play out from the back easily.
