Starting Lineup

Riou · Ashworth · Hartley · Hutton · Vazquez · White · Moyoyo · Key · Mumin · Famewo · Vigouroux

A heavy emphasis on high pressing and rapid verticality defines this lineup using a 2-5-3. This formation seeks to overwhelm the opposition through sheer numbers in the middle and high up the pitch to win the ball back quickly. The goal is to control the game by forcing turnovers in the final third and hitting the opponent before they can settle.

Vigouroux plays behind a very narrow defensive unit consisting of only two central defenders. Mumin and Famewo must act as ball playing defenders who can handle large spaces behind them if the press is bypassed. Because there are no full backs, these two must be capable of stepping up to intercept passes and managing one on one situations. They must hold a high line to compress the pitch and ensure the distance between the defense and the midfield remains minimal.

The midfield is the engine of this team, acting as a five man block that dominates the center. White sits in the middle to connect the defensive and attacking lines, while Key and Moyoyo operate as a double pivot to shield Mumin and Famewo. Key and Moyoyo must be ready to tackle and win the second ball to keep the pressure on. Ahead of them, Ashworth and Hutton operate in the half spaces as attacking midfielders to drive forward with the ball and create chances. This midfield group is designed to crowd the central areas and deny the opponent any time on the ball.

In the final third, the team uses three attackers to stretch the opposition back line. Vazquez acts as a pressing centre forward to lead the hunt from the front. On the wings, Riou and Hartley act as wide wingers who stay high to provide width and isolate defenders in one on one situations. Riou and Hartley can also cut inside to allow Ashworth and Hutton to make runs into the box. The combination of these five players creates constant movement to pull defenders out of position and create space for through balls.

This formation provides immense numerical superiority in the midfield and the attacking third. By crowding the center with White, Key, Moyoyo, Ashworth, and Hutton, the team can easily overwhelm most standard midfields. Another advantage is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, using the front three and the attacking midfielders to squeeze the space around the opponent's goalkeeper. This makes it very difficult for the opposition to play out from the back.

This 2-5-3 formation is built for a high risk, high reward style of play centered on dominance and aggression. It is best suited for matches against teams that struggle to play under pressure or those that play with a low block that can be broken by numbers.
