Roncaglia operates as a single pivot to shield the defense, while Mascherano sits alongside to win the second ball and disrupt play. In the half spaces, Scaloni and Rojo/Álvaro Pereira work to carry the ball forward and drive into the attacking third. This group must work hard to track back and cover the wide areas left open by the lack of full backs.

Up front, the attack is heavy with four players positioned to threaten the goal. Veron and Claudio Lopez work as a striking partnership, where one can act as a target man to hold up the ball while the other looks for runs in behind. Enzo Perez and Palermo operate as wide wingers, with Enzo Perez looking to cut inside and Palermo stretching the play to find space. This quartet is designed to overwhelm the opposition defense through quick combinations and constant movement.
