Starting Lineup

Dibu · Molina · Cuti · Lisandro · Tagliafico · Enzo · Mac Allister · Barco · Paz · Julián · Lautaro

Argentina aims to dominate through high intensity pressing and rapid transitions using a 4-4-2. This formation allows the team to squeeze the pitch and win the ball back high up the pitch. The team looks to control the tempo by playing short from the back and using the midfield to control the center.

Dibu sits between the posts to organize the defense. The back line operates as a flat back four where Molina acts as an attacking full back to provide width. Tagliafico plays as a left back who can overlap or tuck in to cover the space. In the heart of the defense, Cuti is dominant in the air and can step into midfield to create an extra man, while Lisandro provides cover to sweep behind a high line. This unit works together to maintain a compact shape and compress the midfield.

The midfield utilizes a three man midfield with a carrier to link the lines. Enzo acts as a deep lying playmaker to recycle possession and move the ball from defense to attack. Mac Allister works to find the feet of the striker and can carry the ball forward to break the line. Barco plays in the left half space to help switch play, while Paz operates as an attacking ten to arrive late into the box. This group works to deny the pivot and cut off the passing lane to the opposition.

The attacking unit consists of two forwards in a partnership. Julián acts as a pressing centre forward to force a long ball from the opponent. Lautaro plays as a mobile striker who can drop deep to link up play or run in behind the defense. They combine in tight spaces to pull wide defenders out of position. The movement of the front two is designed to create runs in behind and allow the wide midfielders to exploit the space left by the opposition.

Argentina offers great strength through the ability to press high in coordinated waves. This creates constant pressure on the opponent's build up. The team also benefits from the speed of transition when winning the second ball. The setup allows for wide overloads when Molina and Tagliafico push up to support the midfield.

This 4-4-2 is built to overwhelm opponents through intense pressing and verticality. It is best suited for games where Argentina needs to dominate possession and pin the opponent in their own half.
