Independiente Football Formation
Starting Lineup
RODRIGO (REY) · LEONARDO (GODOY) · JUAN MIGUEL (ARRAYAGO) · JUAN (FEDORCO) · JONATHAN (DE IRASTORZA) · DAVID (MARTÍNEZ) · JOEL (MEDINA) · MATEO (PÉREZ CURCI) · IMANOL (MACHUCA) · RODRIGO (MÁRQUEZ) · IVÁN (MORALES)Independiente aims to control the tempo through a 4-3-3 formation. The team looks to dominate with high pressing and quick transitions to catch the opposition off guard. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and use the width of the field to stretch the defensive lines.
Rodrigo stands between the posts to organize the back line. The defense operates as a flat back four with Leonardo acting as an attacking full back on the right to provide width. Jonathan plays as an attacking left back to support the forward movements. In the center, Juan and Juan Miguel act as the primary defenders, where Juan can step into midfield to help with build up while Juan Miguel focuses on winning the second ball and covering the space behind.
The midfield functions with a three-man midfield containing a deep layer and more advanced roles. David and Joel work to control the center, with David often dropping to help the defense while Joel tries to drive forward with the ball. Mateo operates as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to find pockets of space and play through the lines. This group works to connect the defensive unit to the attack by recycling possession and looking for the right moment to break the line.
Independiente utilizes three attackers across the front to pin the opposition back. Ivan acts as the central striker, tasked to hold up the ball and lead the press from the front. On the wings, Rodrigo and Imanol act as wide wingers who want to cut inside to create goal scoring chances. The movement is designed to create runs in behind and allow the full backs to overlap the winger, creating two on two situations against the opposing defenders.
One major advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves. When the front three press, Mateo and the central midfielders can squeeze the space to win it back high up the pitch. Another strength is the wide overloads created when Leonardo and Jonathan push up to join the wingers. This makes it difficult for opponents to defend the flanks without leaving the center open.
This 4-3-3 formation provides a strong balance of defensive stability and attacking intent. It is best suited for games where Independiente needs to dominate possession and force the opponent into mistakes through high intensity.
