River Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Ortega · Montiel · Rivero · Martínez Quarta · Driussi · Borré · Beltrán · Almada · Moreno · Arambarri · BeltránRiver relies on heavy verticality and an aggressive press to dominate games through a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to control the middle of the pitch and use heavy numbers to overwhelm opponents in their own half. The goal is to win the ball back high up the pitch and immediately find players in advanced positions to exploit spaces.
Beltrán stays between the posts to organize the back line. Rivero and Martínez Quarta operate as a narrow pair of central defenders who must be ready to step up to squeeze the space or cover runners. Because there are only two defenders, they often play a high line to keep the distance between the lines small. They focus on intercepting passes and winning the second ball to keep the pressure on.
The midfield is the engine of River, using a five man unit that occupies the center and wide areas. Montiel acts as the right single pivot to shield the defense, while Ortega operates as the left single pivot to help with the build up. Arambarri and Moreno act as the two central midfielders to provide stability and win duels in the middle. Beltrán plays as the attacking ten behind the striker, looking to find pockets of space and play through the lines to create scoring chances.
Up front, the team uses three attackers to stretch the opposition. Driussi plays as a lone striker, acting to hold up the ball and link play with the midfielders. Almada and Borré operate as wide wingers who cut inside to create numerical superiority in central areas. They press the opposition back line from the front to force long balls and win possession back quickly. This front three works to pin the last defender and create runs in behind.
This formation offers significant numerical superiority in midfield, making it very difficult for opponents to find passing lanes through the center. The heavy presence in the middle allows River to recycle possession quickly and launch rapid attacks. The ability to press in coordinated waves from the front three and the five midfielders creates intense pressure on the ball carrier.
River uses this aggressive lineup to dictate the tempo and suffocate opponents in their own half. This formation is best suited for games against teams that struggle to play out from the back under pressure.
