Starting Lineup

Boca prioritizes defensive solidity and rapid transitions using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup is built to sit in a mid-block and absorb pressure before hitting teams with speed on the break. By keeping a compact unit, Boca aims to deny space between the lines and strike when the opposition is caught out of position.

Montero stays between the posts to organize the back five. The defensive unit relies on a central trio of Paredes, Costa, and Di Lollo to hold the line and defend zonally. Paredes acts as the central anchor, while Costa and Di Lollo provide cover and strength in the air. The wide defenders, Blanco and Lozano, function as attacking wing backs who must track back to support the defense and squeeze the space when the ball is lost. This back five can shift into a narrow defensive block to protect the middle of the pitch.

The midfield operates with a double pivot to manage the central area. Ascacíbar and Delgado sit in front of the back five to shield the defense and intercept passes. Ascacíbar works to win the second ball, while Delgado looks to connect the defensive and attacking lines. This duo must be disciplined to prevent opponents from playing through the lines, ensuring they always provide a layer of protection for the defenders.

Boca utilizes three attackers across the front to stretch the opposition. Villa acts as a lone striker, using his movement to find space and hold up the ball for his teammates. Aranda and Flores operate as wide wingers who look to cut inside and create chances. These attackers press from the front to force a long ball and disrupt the opposition build up. The formation relies on the wingers and the striker to combine in tight spaces or use the runs in behind provided by the wing backs.

A major advantage for Boca is the ability to create wide overloads when Blanco and Lozano push up to join the attack. This setup also provides great compactness when defending, making it very hard for opponents to find gaps. The team can also exploit the speed of transition, moving the ball quickly from the double pivot to the wide players to catch the defense off guard.
