The team plays a direct and vertical style of football using a 4-4-2 formation. This lineup focuses on winning second balls and moving the play quickly from the defensive third to the attacking unit. By utilizing two banks of four, the team aims to remain compact and difficult to break down while looking to hit opponents in transition.

Damon operates between the posts to command the area. The defensive unit sits in a flat back four with Marcus and Dmitri acting as the central pair. Marcus focuses on winning headers and providing physical presence, while Dmitri acts as a covering defender to sweep behind the line. Lucas and Kylian function as full backs who maintain the width of the defensive block. Lucas looks to provide support in wide areas, whereas Kylian focuses on tracking back to deny the turn of opposition wingers.

The midfield works in two lines of two to control the central spaces. Gabriel and Julian form a central pairing where Gabriel acts as the shield for the defense and Julian looks to carry the ball forward into the half spaces. Gabriel is tasked to intercept passes and protect the center, while Julian looks to break the line with vertical passes. On the flanks, Raphael and Thierry provide the width in the midfield. Raphael operates on the left to press aggressively, while Thierry plays on the right to help the team recycle possession.

The attack relies on a partnership of two forwards. Mateo acts as a pressing centre forward to force long balls from the opposition back line, while Olive works in close combination with him to link play. Mateo looks to make runs in behind the defenders, whereas Olive often drops slightly deeper to find the feet of the striker and lay it off to oncoming runners. This duo works to pin the last defender and create space for the midfielders to arrive late into the box.

This formation offers great compactness when defending a lead. The team can easily shift into a low block to deny space between the lines. Another advantage is the ability to use the wide players to create overloads on the flanks when Lucas or Kylian push forward. The verticality allows the team to bypass the midfield quickly to isolate the opposition defenders in one on one situations.

The 4-4-2 formation provides a solid foundation for a team that wants to hit opponents on the break. It is best suited for games against possession heavy teams where the goal is to sit deep and counter at pace.
