DAMJANOVIĆ · MUSIĆ · KAPETANOVIĆ · DRINA · IKIĆ · ŠTILIĆ · BEĆA · MEŠINOVIĆ · GASAL · JOVIĆ · UBIPARIP

Željeznicar relies on a heavy defensive block and quick transitions using a 5-4-1. The team looks to sit deep, absorb pressure, and hit the opposition on the break. This formation is built to be defensively solid, sitting in a low block to deny space between the lines and protecting the central areas at all costs.

UBIPARIP guards the goal as the last line of defense. The back five consists of three central defenders, MEŠINOVIĆ, BEĆA, and ŠTILIĆ, who hold a narrow defensive block to protect the middle. MEŠINOVIĆ acts as a ball playing defender to start moves, while BEĆA and ŠTILIĆ focus on being dominant in the air and covering runs behind. On the flanks, JOVIĆ and GASAL operate as attacking wing backs, providing width when the team wins the ball and tracking back to form a five man line when defending. The unit works to keep the distance between the defenders and the midfield midfielders very tight.

The midfield works as a flat four to shield the defense. DRINA and IKIĆ act as a double pivot in the center, with IKIĆ focusing on shielding the defense and DRINA looking to recycle possession and connect the lines. On the edges, KAPETANOVIĆ and MUSIĆ occupy the wide areas, looking to press aggressively to win the ball high when the team moves out of the low block. This midfield unit aims to compress the midfield and deny the turn to any attacking players in the half spaces.

Damjanović acts as a lone striker and a pressing centre-forward to disrupt the opposition back line. He is tasked to hold up the ball and wait for support, often playing with his back to goal. The attack relies on the width provided by JOVIĆ and GASAL to deliver crosses into the box. When Željeznicar breaks quickly, Damjanović looks to make runs in behind to exploit the space left by high defensive lines. The team moves from a compact shape into a vertical attacking mode through quick passes to the wings.

The tactical advantages of this Željeznicar lineup include extreme compactness when defending, making it very difficult for opponents to play through the middle. The formation also allows for wide overloads when JOVIĆ and GASAL push up, creating numbers in the final third. Additionally, the team is capable of a high speed of transition, moving from a deep block to an attacking shape in seconds.

This 5-4-1 formation provides a robust platform for teams that want to remain hard to beat and play on the counter. It is best suited for matches against dominant teams that hold a lot of possession.
