Tayvon and Kevin function as full backs who need to balance their duties. Tayvon pushes up to provide width while Kevin tucks in to ensure the defensive line remains compact. This unit works to hold a line and squeeze the space when the team presses high.

The midfield is a three-man midfield with a carrier. James and Andrés work in the central areas to control the rhythm and recycle possession. Andrés often looks to connect the defensive and attacking lines with his passing range. James acts as the engine to press aggressively and win the second ball. Maxi plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to link the midfield to the front three. Maxi looks to find pockets of space to play through the lines and create chances.

New York City uses three attackers across the front. Bénie and Hannes act as wide wingers who stretch the defence, with Bénie looking to cut inside to threaten the goal. N. Fernández operates as a pressing centre-forward, working to harass the opposition centre-backs and lead the line. The forwards work in combinations to create runs in behind. They aim to isolate wide players in one on one situations by using quick passes to find the wingers.

The lineup offers significant advantages in terms of central control and width. By using James and Andrés to dominate the middle, the team creates numerical superiority in midfield. This allows the side to maintain control while the wide players and full backs provide wide overloads. The coordinated pressing of Maxi and N.
