New York City Soccer Formation
Starting Lineup
TOMÁS (ROMERO) · MITJA (ILENIC) · MAX (MURRAY) · KAMRAN (ACITO) · NICO (CAVALLO) · KEATON (PARKS) · AIDEN (O'NEILL) · KAI (TREWIN) · TALLES (MAGNO) · AGUSTÍN (OJEDA) · LUIGHINew York City focuses on high pressing and vertical play using a 4-3-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball back high up the pitch and quickly attack the opposition with speed. The goal for New York City is to use short passing to move through the thirds and create chances in the final third.
TOMÁS starts between the posts to command the area. The defensive unit operates as a flat back four that can step up to set the offside trap. KAMRAN and MAX act as the central defenders, with KAMRAN playing as a ball playing defender while MAX covers the space behind him. NICO plays as an attacking full back to provide width on the left, while MITJA functions as a defensive wing back to help secure the right side.
The midfield consists of a three-man midfield with a carrier and a creative presence. KEATON sits in the left central role to shield the defence and intercept passes. KAI operates as the right central midfielder who drives forward with the ball to break the line. AIDEN plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to arrive late into the box and find spaces between the lines. This trio connects the defence to the attack by recycling possession when needed.
Up front, the team utilizes three attackers across the front. AGUSTÍN plays as an inverted winger on the left, cutting inside to shoot or lay it off to teammates. TALLES stays wide on the right to stretch the defence and whip it in for the striker. LUIGHI acts as a pressing centre-forward, working to pin the last defender and hold up the ball to bring others into the game. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.
This formation offers several tactical advantages. The presence of AIDEN allows for numerical superiority in the half-spaces during the attacking phase. The team can also use wide overloads when NICO and AGUSTÍN combine to overlap the winger. This setup creates a high level of pressure that makes it difficult for opponents to play out from the back.
The 4-3-3 formation is designed for a high intensity game focused on winning the ball high. It is best suited for facing teams that struggle to play under pressure or defend in a high block.
