Chicago Soccer Formation
Starting Lineup
JOSH (COHEN) · JONATHAN (DEAN) · JACK (ELLIOTT) · MAURICIO (PINEDA) · ANDREW (GUTMAN) · ANZOR (MEKVABISHVILI) · SERGIO (OREGEL) · ROBIN (LOD) · MAREN (HAILE-SELASSIE) · DAVID (POREBA) · DEAN (BOLTZ)Chicago seeks to dominate matches through a high press and verticality in a 4-3-3. This formation is built to pin opponents back and win the ball high up the pitch to catch defensive lines out of position. The team uses aggressive movement to stretch the pitch and create chances through quick transitions.
Josh plays behind a flat back four to provide a solid foundation. Mauricio and Jack operate as central defenders, with Mauricio acting as a ball playing defender to help play out from the back while Jack covers space. Andrew plays as an attacking full back to provide width on the left, while Jonathan performs similar duties on the right to help spread the play. This defensive unit works to maintain a high line to squeeze the space between the lines.
The midfield functions as a three man midfield with a carrier and an attacking ten. Anzor and Sergio occupy the central roles, where Anzor works to shield the defence and Sergio looks to carry the ball forward into the half spaces. Robin plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to connect the midfield and attack. Robin operates in the hole to find pockets of space and link play, while Anzor and Sergio work to win the second ball and recycle possession.
Chicago utilizes three attackers across the front to maintain constant pressure. Dean operates as a pressing centre-forward to lead the line and pin the last defender. On the wings, David and Maren act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create central overloads. This movement allows the wingers to isolate defenders one on one or create space for Andrew and Jonathan to overlap the winger. The front three work to press the opposition back line to force a long ball.
A major advantage for Chicago is the ability to press high in coordinated waves. The proximity of Robin to Dean allows the team to trigger a press immediately upon losing possession. Another strength is the wide overloads provided when the full backs push up to support David and Maren. This creates numerical superiority in wide areas and forces the opposition to shift constantly.
This 4-3-3 formation is built for aggressive, attacking football that relies on high intensity. It is best suited for games where Chicago can dominate possession and exploit a high defensive line.
