Athletic aims to win the ball high up the pitch and strike quickly using a high pressing 3-3-4. This formation is built to overwhelm the opposition by flooding the attacking third and forcing errors through relentless pressure. The lineup prioritizes verticality and attacking numbers to punish teams that try to play out from the back.

In goal, 88 acts as the last line of defense. The defensive unit operates with a back three consisting of 84 as the central defender, flanked by 86 as the right centre-back and 80 as the left centre-back. These defenders must hold a high line to compress the pitch and keep the distance between the units small. They need to win the second ball and be ready to step up to catch opponents offside or clear the lines when under heavy pressure.

The midfield functions as a three-man midfield with a carrier to connect the lines. 85 plays as an attacking ten behind the strikers, while 86 and 82 operate in the central areas to control the tempo. 86 and 82 are tasked to press aggressively to win the ball high and then drive forward with the ball to support the front line. This trio must work to squeeze the space in the middle and ensure they do not get bypassed during transitions.

Athletic utilizes four attackers to create constant chaos in the final third. The front line features 88 as an inverted winger on the left and 80 as a winger on the right, both looking to cut inside or provide width. In the center, 83 and 80 operate as two forwards in a partnership, looking to make runs in behind the defense. They focus on link-up play between the lines and making quick combinations to split the defence with a through ball.

One major advantage for Athletic is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it very difficult for opponents to build play. The formation also allows for numerical superiority in the attacking zone, which can pin the last defender and create many chances. This heavy presence up front forces the opposition to sit deep, which opens up space for the midfielders to arrive late into the box.

This high pressing 3-3-4 formation is designed to dominate games through sheer attacking volume and intense pressure. It is best suited for facing opponents who struggle to play under pressure or teams that leave large gaps between their midfield and defensive lines.
