Starting Lineup
JERE (1) · MARCIANO (4) · CARITA (2) · PAZ (6) · ENZO (3) · CHUCKY (8) · JOSE (c) (5) · PEPE (11) · NAHUE (10) · FABIAN (7) · MAURI (9)A focus on defensive stability and rapid counter attacks defines this lineup in a 5-3-2. This formation is built to sit deep and absorb pressure before hitting the opposition with speed. The team relies on a compact defensive block to force turnovers and uses the width provided by the wing backs to stretch the opposition once possession is won.
Jere plays between the posts to command the area and organize the back line. The defensive unit functions as a back five with Jose, acting as captain, leading the center. Jose provides aerial strength and organizes the line while Carita and Paz sit alongside him to cover the central zones. To the sides, Enzo and Marciano act as attacking wing backs who provide the primary width. They are expected to push high up the pitch to support the attack but must track back quickly to maintain the five man line when the team is out of possession.
The midfield works as a three man midfield with a carrier. Pepe and Chucky operate in the central zones to shield the defense and win the second ball. Pepe helps to connect the defensive line to the attack, while Chucky drives forward with the ball to transition play. Nahue operates as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to play through the lines and find space between the opposition midfield and defense. This trio must remain compact to prevent the opponent from playing through the middle.
Up front, the team utilizes two forwards in a partnership. Fabian and Mauri work together to lead the press from the front and pin the last defender. Fabian often looks to run in behind the defensive line, while Mauri works to hold up the ball and link up with Nahue. The movement is designed to create runs in behind and exploit the space left when the opposition commits men forward. When the wing backs push up, Fabian and Mauri can combine in tight spaces to create chances or wait for a cross from the flanks.
This formation offers great compactness when defending, making it very hard for opponents to find gaps in the center. The ability to use wide overloads from overlapping full backs like Enzo and Marciano also creates significant problems during transitions. By having three central midfielders and three central defenders, the team can easily shift to control the central areas of the pitch.
This 5-3-2 formation is a reliable way to play a defensive game based on quick transitions. It is best suited for facing teams that dominate possession and allows the team to hit them on the break.
